Major support for Erin O’Toole in Yukon
Following the release today of True North Stong, Erin O’Toole’s policy plan for Northern Canada, three Yukon MLAs announced their endorsement of the Honourable Erin O’Toole to become the next Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada.
“I am proud to support a candidate who recognizes the importance of Northern Canada. Erin has put forward a vision of the North to grow the economy, create jobs for the people who live here, and ensure Northerners are full partners in Canada. I believe Erin is the candidate that has the best opportunity to beat Trudeau in 2019.” – Stacey Hassard, Interim Leader of the Yukon Party and MLA for Pelly-Nisutlin; former Minister of Economic Development.
“As a Canadian Ranger, I value a leader who understands the incredible contributions and sacrifices our Armed Forces have made to help Canada become the country it is today. Not only does Erin O’Toole understand first hand the hard work our Forces do on our behalf everyday, he has shown a clear commitment to support them. Further, Erin recognizes the importance of building and maintaining roads and highways in the North, such as the Shakwak Corridor on the Alaska Highway. The Alaska Highway has been a critical piece of infrastructure for Canada’s economy as well as the Canada-US trade relationship, and a leader that understands that will be good for the North.” – Wade Istchenko, MLA for Kluane; former Minister of Environment and Minister of Highways & Public Works.
“I’m endorsing Erin because he understands the key role that responsible resource development plays in growing our country’s economy, and has put forward strong policies to support it. His dedication to work with the territories to identify and address gaps in northern infrastructure will bring us closer to accessing our vast resources while creating more jobs for northerners.” – Scott Kent, House Leader of the Yukon Party and MLA for Copperbelt South; former Minister of Energy, Mines & Resources.
“I am honoured to have the support of my colleagues in Yukon. As leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, I will fight for Northern Canada every day by strengthening their voice in Ottawa and U.S. trade talks, and investing strategically in infrastructure that will help stimulate the Northern economy into a powerful engine.” – Erin O’Toole, MP for Durham
